Transportation Day 2011

Virginia Haynes, Administrative Coordinator

There’s still time to apply for NOACA’s Commuter Choice Awards! The deadline has been extended to Friday, August 14. Supporting environmentally friendly transportation choices for commuters is a win-win. Employees benefit by saving money and enjoying a healthier commute to work. Northeast Ohio benefits by reduced vehicle traffic and congestion, and improved air quality. Employers benefit by maintaining a happier, healthier, and less-stressed workforce. If you promote and provide incentives for employees to use alternative modes of transportation, including transit, carpooling, bicycling and walking, or offer telecommuting options and flexible work weeks, here’s your chance to be recognized for it.

The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), northeast Ohio’s transportation and environmental planning agency, is sponsoring the 2015 Commuter Choice Awards to recognize companies and organizations that practice and promote environmentally friendly commute options. Eligible organizations are those with facilities in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain or Medina counties.

Organizations could receive a Gold, Silver or Bronze rating based on the percentage of employees who engage in environmentally friendly commuting alternatives and on the organization’s incentives, programs, policies and investments that support commute alternatives. NOACA will also recognize one organization as being most improved since last year.

Examples of Award-Winning Activities:
· Encouraging alternative commutes through location efficiency and other policies
· Subsidizing monthly transit passes
· Providing showers and lockers for bicyclists and pedestrians
· Installing bicycle racks
· Offering premium parking spaces to people who carpool
· Educating employees on the benefits of alternative commutes

To Apply for the Award:
Simply complete an online survey. The deadline to enter is July 31, 2015. Awards will be presented at NOACA’s Annual Meeting in the fall. Winners will also be recognized on NOACA’s website and other publicity materials.
